STANDARD Working Definition:
communiction: any process in which people exchange information, ideas, experiences, and feelings whether verbal or non-verbal.
interpersonal communiction: a dialogical relationship among persons. A dyadic communication is a subset of IP where only two persons are involved in a dialogicl relationship.
intra-personal communication: a self-reflexive interior dialogue.
The exchange of a "message" (thoughts,
concepts, information, or stories about something) through some media (speech,
signals, writing, or behavior) between an "sender" and "receiver" where
they share some code (codes)
and contexts (experiences).

Disciplinary Definitions:
From a Cognitive Science point of view, the working defintion would be something like: communication is the interaction of two persons coding signals by assimilating frameworks from their memories and/or accommodating (blending) them to construct a world in which they make sense.
Comments:
Note that the standard definition privileges verbal communication and neglects visual aspects.
The concepts message, sender, receiver, code, and context are redefined in a Cognitive Science approach to the study of communication.
