Finding Internet Service Providers by Zip Code

Probably the best way to find out about local internet providers is to search internet service providers by zip code. That’s what I found out when I was moving. It can be really difficult to sift through all the advertising hype. Many providers may have service in your state or city, but not all the same plans throughout the entire service area. So searching by zip code helped me to find out precisely what was available to me.

I was looking first to see if I could duplicate the internet service I now have. I love ATT Uverse, because it is unmatched for speed and quality. I really need speed, since we have HDTV, and use the internet for videos, music, webcam, and secure internet transactions with banking and shopping. I do a lot of my work online too, and want my connection to my site to be secure.

Unfortunately Uverse was not available at my new address. Verizon FiOS was available, as well as cable internet and DSL. I was very interested in FiOS because I wanted to continue to have a fiber optic connection, since it really makes a difference for me with how our family uses the internet. I like having a distortion free connection, and linking my phone, internet, and high definition TV.

Enjoying Cable and Internet Services

With the invention of the Internet and fiber optics, our globe has hurtled into the information age, and cable and Internet have been a vital part of information transport. Most companies that offer cable service also offer Internet service in the form of a broadband connection. Most homes in the U.S. have access to either or both, and for many, these services are very affordable.

Although there are alternative ways to send and receive data and other information, such as satellite and DSL connections, those offered by cable and Internet services seem to be the most reliable. The choice is a personal one. Some do not want to have a satellite dish on their property, and claim high winds and bad weather affect reception, while others feel they have more choices through satellite connections, and that cable company fees are too high. DSL Internet service is somewhat slower than broadband service, but satellite and DSL connections may be the only options in certain parts of the country where cable has not yet been laid.

More and more cable companies are offering a dedicated line for Internet service, which means less traffic and higher upload and download speeds. Many companies give deep discounts if services are bundled into an economical monthly package. The larger cable companies also have added phone service secondary to the Internet service, using a dual modem. The best discounts are gained with subscriptions to all three services.

How to Get Broadband Internet Service

Broadband internet connection is the latest addition in the information technology. Through a broadband internet connection you can get the taste of extreme high speed of internet. Though dial up internet connection is not really able to give you more than 56kbits per second. But the broadband internet connection is able to provide you 32mbits of data transfer in a second. Comparing with the cost of dial up internet connection, broad band connection is also cost effective due to this high speed of data transfer rate.

Now the question is where to get this service. At first look for this service at your locality. If, you have a dial up connection then ask your service provider, are they able to give you this service or not. If they are not able then find something else. The price of the service is very important. Ask your service provider about their cost rate.

There are some services that charge on the amount of space has browsed. Some have a monthly price for unlimited browsing. If you want to download movies and music files then unlimited service is best for you. But you if want to perform your official and business activities then the limited service is the best option for you.

3G and 4G Wireless Internet Services

WISP is an acronym for Wireless Internet Service Provider. The Wireless Internet Service Provider provides 3G and 4G internet services. WISP can also offer different types of local internet wireless services. Nowadays, 3G and 4G Wi-Fi hotspots are emerging technologies. 3G and 4G wireless internet is provided through Wi-Fi, which is also known as wireless fidelity.

Hotels, businesses, cafes, airports, transit stations, including some conveyances like ferries and even air travel have internet access through Wi-Fi networks. Latest gadgets like laptops, notebooks, tablets or internet-capable smart phones can use 3G and 4G internet through a Wi-Fi network or “hotspot”. The basic compatibility standard for Wi-Fi is based on IEEE 802.11 specifications. Now, a new specification of IEEE 802.16 is referred to as WiMAX and is currently in demand. The WiMAX specification is intended to offer a broader range of Wi-Fi access and have higher data transfer speeds. WiMAX provides a new standard for wireless access in rural areas, which are sometimes referred to as “last mile” areas.

Terms like Wi-Fi and WiMAX do not refer to specific products. They enable different manufacturers to meet standards and certifications that their devices will provide desired services and are up to the standard set forth for performance. These technologies allow 3G and 4G wireless internet to be provided on a broad range of devices and through a broad range of different providers. The average person uses “WiMAX” to refer wireless internet access instead of specifications like IEEE 802.16 because the terms are much easier to remember.

Mobile Internet Services For Inter City Train Passengers

This article covers my recent experiences using VIA Rail Canada’s passenger mobile internet service while travelling from Toronto to Montreal. These types of services have become more and more prevalent over the past few years. VIA was an early adopter; having launched their initial mobile internet service in 2006 and then upgraded in 2010 and 2011.

VIA Rail Canada was one of the first rail companies in the world to provide mobile internet services to its passengers in 2006. The service is provided on its 42 trains in its central Canada corridor between Windsor Ontario and Quebec City covering about 700 miles. At the outset the service used a combination of satellite and a pair of 2G mobile connections. In 2010 the service was revamped to use a pair of 3G mobile connections; abandoning the satellite connection entirely. Service was fair to good according to accounts I have found on the internet, blogs, and Twitter.

A complete forklift upgrade was done over the course of 2011 and 2012. The new service is installed on the 42 train fleet and is comprised of 6 aggregated HSPA+ mobile connections, an on board server and controller, in coach passenger access point (B,G), and a wireless N mesh network connecting all coaches.
